Call Accounting Systems in the Healthcare Industry are used to track and log all calls coming into and out of the hospital or clinic.  This allows these facilities to save money on telecommunications usage, decrease phone abuse, accurately allocate expenses and possibly generate revenue by billing specific departments, clinics, or even patients.

The type of data collected on each call generally consists of the telephone number dialed or the specific number calling in, the time of day and day of week the call was placed, length of call, any account codes used or personal ID digits, and access and egress.  Access designates the type of trunk the call was placed from and indicates the type of trunk or line the call terminated on.  For instance, a call can be placed using a local line, terminating on a long-distance trunk used for 800 services.
